People do not live on their own, they interact with other people in a community and they need a government to administer them. Government refers to the body of persons that constitute the governing authority of a political unit or organization. It gives authoritative direction and control without which, there will be chaos. Everybody will put his needs before others, selfishness will rule and we all know where this could lead.
The people recognize the need for order and direction in the community they live and have learned to respect the rule of the majority and protect the interest of the minority. This is the concept of democracy, the most popular form of government. In the Phrase of Abraham Lincoln, democracy is a government "of the people, by the people and for the people".
In a democrativ form of government, the rights of the people are given the highest regard. The citizen's choice matters. Each of the sectors of the society is duly represented and there exist a system of check and balance. It creates a suitable environment for business and economy and encourages the development of the citizen's potentials. Since the people participate in the way the government is run, abuse of power can be prevented.
However the ideal government set up of a country's maybe there are still forces/groups that couldn't be satisfied and want to topple it down. Such is the case of a military coup d'etat - the sudden overthrow of a government by a usually small group of persons or previously in positions of authority, where a group of military officers run the country and establish a military government after seizing power.
Recently the country almost experienced a Constitutional crisis with the clamor to overthrow the country's Chief Justice. This only goes to show that our country, no matter how fragile democracy is, stands strong when the question of constitutionality is at stake.
It is therefore unthinkable for the Philippines to succeed under military rule because it is not popular. There are many ways to destroy our democracy but obviously, a democratic government or the people's government is far more desirable.
