AFP on HR Cases: “We’re doing actions”

CAMP GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through its Human Rights Office (HRO) initiated a clarificatory meeting with a representative from the Human Rights Watch (HRW), Friday to discuss about the actions being taken by the AFP in response to HRW’s report of the military’s involvement in several human rights violation incidents in the past years.
“For the year 2011, my office has received and documented a total of 59 official complaints which we have promptly addressed and reported to the higher authority,” Colonel Domingo J. Tutaan, Chief of the AFPHRO told HRW Researcher for Asia Division, Carlos H. Conde.
PMA Alumni Meet in Annual Convention

CAMP GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City – More than 1000 alumni of the Philippine Military Academy will convene tomorrow for the annual PMA Alumni Association Incorporated (PMAAAI) General Membership Meeting at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Theater, with the theme “PMA: Bright Beacon of the Land.”
PMAAAI Chairman, Retired General Remy T. Tigulo and President, Police Chief Superintendent Francisco A. Uyami Jr. will lead tomorrow’s convention as Military Ordinate of the Philippines, Bishop Leopoldo S. Tumulac will attend as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
The annual convention of PMAAAI is an occasion where the alumni confers awards to its outstanding members, approves the minutes of the previous annual meeting, conducts election of board directors and discusses other matters related to the association.
AFP Sends 16th Philippine Contingent to Liberia

CAMP AGUINALDO, QUEZON CITY—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), sent off the 115-strong contingent to Liberia today at the Philippine Air Force Hangar in Clark Air Base, Pampanga. This Philippine Contingent is part of the on-going peacekeeping mission conducted by the United Nations for 9 years now.
The Philippine Contingent to Liberia (PCL) is part of the AFP’s commitment to the UN’s global peace and development efforts. This year, the 16th PCL is led by Col Armin Alejaga and is composed of seven officers, one medical staff, and 107 enlisted personnel who have undergone the UN Core Pre-deployment Training.
First Air Division Commander Major General Ricardo Banayat led the send-off ceremony in behalf of PAF Commanding General MGen Lauro Catalino Dela Cruz. In a speech delivered by Banayat, MGen Dela Cruz pressed on the soldiers the value of commitment to their mission.
US based Peace Institute Recognizes IPSP “Bayanihan”

Camp Aguinaldo – The Armed Forces of the Philippines Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP)- Bayanihan is gaining ground in the global setting.
The United States Institute for Multi-Track Diplomacy (IMTD) whose mission is to promote a systems approach to peace-building has recognized the Armed Forces of the Philippines where stronger platforms in the areas of human rights, community-based focus and people-centered approach were established on its campaign to fulfill a lasting peace in the country.
This was marked when Major Jo-ar Acosta Herrera from the Philippine Army who at that time studying at the Kennedy School of Special Warfare at Fort Bragg, promoted the Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP)- Bayanihan strategy in a conference meeting with Ambassador John W Mcdonald, Chairman and CEO of the IMTD and Jennifer Kleskie, representing Process Work Institute on November 25, 2011 at IMTD headquarters, Arlington, Virginia, USA.
Scholarships Open for Military Dependents

CAMP GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has announced that the AFP Educational Benefit System Office (EBSO) is now accepting new applicants for 1st Semester, School Year 2012-2013 in college level under the Department of National Defense – Commission on Higher Education – Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges scholarship program.
In a letter directive from the AFP Chief of Staff, LtGen Jessie D. Dellosa, there are still 151 vacant scholarship slots available in state universities nationwide. The program covers courses in Engineering, Agriculture, Fisheries, Teacher Education and Social Science which excludes Bachelor of Laws, Physical Science, Dentistry and Medicine.
Dellosa encourages all Major Services (Army, Air Force and Navy) Commanders, AFP Wide Support Service Units (AFPWSSUs) Chiefs, Joint, Personal and Special Staff to further promote and advertise the scholarship program to help more AFP personnel dependents in their college education.
