Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed Colonel Serme Legaspi Ayuyao as the AFP’s new Judge Advocate General in a simple ceremony presided by Rear Admiral Narciso Vingson Jr, the Deputy Chief of Staff AFP on Thursday, March 16, here.
“The appointment of a new Judge Advocate General in the Armed Forces marks the organization’s continuous commitment in military justice. The AFP leadership is confident that Colonel Ayuyao will maintain the standards of our justice system in support of achieving our shared goals towards nationbuilding,” says AFP Public Affairs Chief Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo.
Col Ayuyao is a seasoned military lawyer with 17 years of experience in the military service. He obtained his law degree at the University of the East in 1994 and entered the Armed Forces in 1998.
He was previously designated as the Acting Judge Advocate General of the AFP. He also chaired the Technical Working Group of the AFP Code of Ethics which crafted a standard investigation procedure for all AFP Investigating Units/Offices for more than two years prior to his appointment. He previously served as the Chief Legal Action Unit of the Intelligence Service AFP and the Chief of the Military Justice Division, Judge Advocate General’s Office.
“The AFP is positive that with Colonel Ayuyao’s outstanding roster of works, we will be able to further improve the administration of military justice and pursue the resolution of cases through active collaboration with our counterparts in the government,” said Colonel Arevalo.
Colonel Ayuyao replaced Colonle Ukol Paglala who is now waiting for his new assignment as the Command Staff, Judge Advocate General of the AFP Chief of Staff.
In his six month-stint as former Judge Advocate General, Colonel Paglala said that their office strengthened the recruitment of new batch of lawyers in the AFP. He also made sure that optimum legal services are delivered to the AFP’s vital stations and to its personnel.
During Colonel Paglala’s headship, the Office of the Judge Advocate General was able to provided adequate and effective legal assistance and protection to numerous AFP Personnel, their dependents, and civilian personnel who are in need of legal services” Colonel Arevalo said.
The Office of The Judge Advocate General is responsible for resolving all legal issues on real state, personnel, retirement, appointment, separation, demotion, promotion, and procurement within the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
