CAMP GEN. CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – Troops of the 1st Infantry (ALWAYS FIRST) Battalion (1IB) overrun the New People’s Army (NPA) Communist terrorists temporary encampment after assaulting enemy position in the vicinity of Barangay San Bueno, Sampaloc, Quezon yesterday, December 4, 2018.
Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan S Manio, Commanding Officer of the 1IB said that the soldiers were conducting Focus Military Operation (FMO) after an intelligence report and tips from civilians about the NPA presence and extortion activities in the area which caused fear to the residents.
When the troops reached near the enemy position at about 1130 in the morning, a gun battle ensued against more or less 20 NPA terrorists that lasted for almost 30 minutes.
Three (3) soldiers were slightly wounded and now on stable condition after given medical treatment, while there was undetermined number of casualties on the NPA side due to the heavy blood stains in their positions. The enemies brought along their wounded comrades when they scampered away according to the troops. The soldiers also recovered one (1) M16 rifle loaded with magazine and ammunition, enemy personal belongings, and other war materials. The terrorists were believed to be members of the NPA Military Regional Guerilla Unit (MRGU).
Brigadier General Arnulfo Marcelo B Burgos Jr. AFP, Commander of the 202nd Brigade who has operational jurisdiction over CALABARZON said that the recent encounter of the troops in Quezon including last month successive encounters in General Nakar were all tips from concerned civilians. “It clearly shows that the NPAs are indeed losing mass base support due to their extortion and terror acts towards the people", he added.
Major General Rhoderick M. Parayno AFP, Commander of the Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) lauded the efforts of 1IB.
He said that the encounter of the troops against the NPA terrorists is a big setback to the upcoming December 26 anniversary preparations of the communist party. The CPP/NPA is known to stage hostilities such as harrasments, raids and ambuscades against soft government posts and installations to highlight significant events in the terrorist movement. “We will be relentless on our combat operations until the yearend and we will give the CPP/NPA no time to celebrate their futile cause. I would appeal to the NPAs, if they want to be with their families and live peaceful, normal and productive lives, to just return to the fold of the law. I guarantee their safety and I'll make sure that they receive all the benefits due them offered by the government", MGen Parayno added.
At present, troops are conducting hot pursuit operations and checkpoints with the local police against the NPA terrorists.///
