CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—Top military officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in a two-day meeting agreed to unite in the face of growing global and regional concern that is terrorism which threatens their respective countries.
Armed Forces of the Philippines Public Affairs Office Chief Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo said that the military chiefs from the ASEAN member states signed the Joint Statement aimed at enhancing joint military exercises and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capacities and to reaffirm the move to formalize the ACDFIM which was first agreed upon by all Chiefs of Defence Forces during the 12th ACDFIM held in Malaysia in 2015, to become a mechanism to counter the spread of violent ideologies and create a coordinated response to non-traditional threats like disasters. General Año pushed for the formalization of the ACDFIM, which was echoed by military chiefs in attendance to ensure integrated and coordinated efforts.

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines will host the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ top military officers in a series of high-level meetings starting Monday, 15 May 2017.
AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo said that the heads of militaries from the 10 ASEAN member states are expected to attend the ASEAN Chiefs of Defense Forces Informal Meeting (ACDFIM) on 17 to 19 May.
