CAMP GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) welcomed back soldiers from the AFP Special Operations Group after the successful operations in the 20-day Zamboanga Siege, in a ceremony held yesterday in Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.
The JSOG-AFP personnel composed of the Light Reaction Battalion of the Philippine Army, Special Operations Command, Navy Special Operations Unit-8 of the Philippine Navy Special Operations Group, and the 721st Special Operations Squadron of the Philippine Air Force Special Operations Wing left Zambonaga yesterday afternoon via C130 aircraft.
CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – Three Rogue Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members were killed while one high powered firearm was recovered by Philippine Marine troops today following an encounter between the two forces in Rio Hondo, Zamboanga City.
About 04:25 AM today, while conducting blocking operations, elements of the 33rd Marine Company, MBLT3 encountered heavily armed rouge MNLF members coming from the fishpond at the extension of Zamboanga State College of Marine Science & Technology (ZSCMST) in Brgy. Rio Hondo.
A fire fight ensued which lasted for about twenty minutes resulting to the death of three unidentified MNLF members and the recovery of one Elisco M16 Armalite cal 5.56.

Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines’ ground and aerial operations saved hostages from captivity by the Nur Misuari-Faction of the Moro National Liberation Front after more than a week since fighting broke out in Zamboanga City.
A total of 123 hostages were rescued since the Misuari Group occupied several areas in Zamboanga City on September 9. Yesterday, September 16, 34 hostages were rescued from the KGK Building occupied by the rebel group in Sta. Barbara following surgical operations from AFP’s Special Operations Command.
Ten were wounded in the heavy firefight. Another 64 were rescued this morning, September 17, in surgical operations in enemy positions in Sta. Barbara. Other hostages were either abandoned or have escaped from their captors.
2 NPAs Captured, 2 Surrender, Firearms Recovered in Weekend Clashes; 3 Soldiers Killed, 2 Wounded in AFP-NPA encounters
