The president was assisted by Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr. in paying tribute to the country’s “everyday heroes,” including "ordinary" Filipinos who have served and sacrificed, most recently in the siege of Marawi City last year.
The AFP hopes that the observance will fan the fire of nationalism among Filipinos; and that the spirit of this national holiday will remind every citizen of their duty to the country, especially in protecting the country's democratic institutions.
