The Philippine Dental Association celebrated the 4th National Dental Health Month with the Theme: “Isang Siglong Nangangalaga sa Ngiting Pilipino Kaisa ng Buong Mundo” last February 01-28, 2008. The Armed Forces of the Philippines Dental Service’s participation in the month-long activities commenced with the Motorcade and Float Parade Competition last January 27, 2008 at the SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. The society’s entry to this competition was dubbed “ROBOTEETH: Our Shield Against Tooth Invaders” which was a crowd favorite. During the awarding rites at the Opening Ceremony, the society was able to bag two awards namely: Motorcade’s Most Number of Attendance and the Motorcade’s 2nd Runner Up Most Attractive Entry in the Jazz Up My Jeep Contest.

          Our society was also supportive to the activities of the PDA by the participation of Dental Officers in the PDA Oral Health Research Center NDHM 2008 Indigency Clinic. Eight Dental Officers were providing free dental treatment to children aside from giving oral health education every Tuesdays and Thursdays for the whole month of February 2008.

          Sports activities were also some of the programs wherein the society participated in. The society placed second in the Basketball Tournament and is set to compete in the Regional Competition. In the PDA Luzon Badminton Tournament, the AFP Dental Society also won an award, as 1st Runner Up, Class A Men’s Doubles. The society’s participation in the PDA Centennial Golf Tournament at the Summit Point Golf and Country Club, Lipa City, Batangas Province earned for the society the Presidential Citation in recognition of our effort to support the successful staging of the PDA Centennial Golf Tournament in conjunction with the celebration of 100 Years of Organized Dentistry in the Philippines.

          The AFP Dental Service, as the primary oral health care organization in the AFP dedicated to improving oral health, has initiated a nationwide campaign for oral health equality named: “Lakbay Serbisyo Handog Ng AFP Dental Service”. This program was launched last February 21, 2008 at the 5th Infantry Division, Gamu, Isabela, which provided free dental health services to the following places: Barangay Marupinas, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Barangay Poblacion, Malinao, Aklan and Barangay Guinatilan, Cebu
