Our world today is constantly changing. Everywhere we go, we see and hear of new and different ideas, concepts, and thousands of upgrades of what was just a week old. And every time, we are challenged to adjust to these changes. It may be difficult and yet much satisfaction is met when we do.
The Dental Service today faces the same challenges. Our field in the dental profession is so dynamic that we are endlessly barraged with new information, advances of present techniques and available products. In addition, patients now are more knowledgeable of dental procedures, and prefer to be an active participant in the whole treatment process. As such, dental practitioners are kept on their toes to be ahead of the race. Much of these challenges have to do with our relentless want to faster treatment as well as more efficient and agreeable with the patient.
Dental treatment and procedures nowadays are indeed becoming more patient-centered, evidence-based and efficient. It is easy to know about the current trends, but are we in the dental profession able to adapt?
Embracing the change and honing our skills is definitely taking the challenge of setting the standard of excellence in our profession and giving service for the benefit of our Filipino patients especially in the entire AFP organization. Consequently, we advocate a well-organized, cohesive and credible Dental Service which necessitates a mindset that is people-oriented and service-oriented. We need to equally keep ourselves abreast with the current trends in our practice and research. We have to take the challenge we encounter due to variability during treatments that we find in our practice. We inevitably have to set a high standard in our treatment options so as not to compromise our treatment objectives.
Moreover, we have to aspire on fulfilling the vision of the Dental Service in being able to have a forward support unit to cater the dental needs of our comrades-in-arms that are in the forefront by having a Mobile Dental Unit. In this time of changes, it is a challenge for the Dental Service to give its dental health care to the people who are indeed fighting for our country.
The “new age mantra” for Dental Service efficiency and success is a dynamic and customized perspective of honing our skills from education, training and research as well as knowledge and information exchange with other nations/countries. These are only a few of the many trends available for us to become competitive globally in our dental profession. Its is obvious that these new knowledge and information we learn can improve and add to our analytical and technical skills as dental professionals, comprising the AFP Dental Service. ONLY, IT IS UP TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF US TO EMBRACE CHANGE…
