CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—General Cirilito Sobjena, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Force of the Philippines, lauded the troops in Sulu province as the terrorist Abu Sayyaf Group continue to incur significant losses.

Notorious ASG sub-leader Injam Yadah was slain in a law enforcement operation with military and police attempted to serve a warrant of arrest at his home at Barangay Alat, Jolo, Sulu on Sunday, June 13.

“The successful neutralization by the Joint Task Force Sulu of another ASG sub-leader is proof of our troops’ determination and commitment to fully eradicate the terrorist threat in Sulu,” General Sobejana said. “Their accomplishments here brings us closer to our goal of putting an end to the menace of terrorism brought by the ASG and other local terrorist groups in the southern Philippines.”

Three of Injam’s followers were also killed, including Al-Al Sawadjaan, a bomb-maker and projected suicide bomber. He is also the youngest brother of Mudzrimar “Mundi” Sawadjaan.

Also captured is Injam’s wife known as Jhing, while three of their children were rescued by authorities.

Injam was reportedly involved in the kidnapping of various foreign nationals and locals including the ex-wife and daughter of former Talipao Mayor Tambrin Tulawie in 2018.

"We've long been on the hunt for Yadah, he has a reputation of being extremely violent - beheading captured innocent civilians and security forces alike. Finally, his hideous acts will now come to a full stop," said Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Commander, Joint Task Force Sulu said earlier.

His latest activity reported was the kidnapping of Rex Triplett in Sirawai, Zamboanga Sibugay and, Dr. Moreno in Jolo in 2020. He was also involved in the abduction of the recently rescued Indonesian Nationals.

This year alone, a total of 292 local terrorists were either killed, captured/apprehended, or have surrendered due to consistent pressure from military operations.

This figure includes 119 ASGs from Sulu, 26 from Basilan, seven in Tawi-Tawi, and three from Zamboanga.

There were also 100 terrorists from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, 13 from DI-Turaife Group, and 24 from DI-Maute Group neutralized this year.

“These recent accomplishments further compound the problems faced by different LTGs in Mindanao. These reductions in the capabilities of the LTGs further restricted their freedom of movement, also limiting their presence in small, remote, and far apart areas in the Zamboanga-Basilan-Sulu-Tawi-tawi provinces,” General Sobejana said.

“I send my congratulations to the troops of Western Mindanao Command led by Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr. Let us sustain our relentless efforts to ensure that our objective of freeing Mindanao from the threats of terrorism is achieved by 2022,” General Sobejana added.///
