Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Gilbert Gapay lauded the Philippine Air Force (PAF) for their efficient response throughout the onslaught of Typhoon Ulysses during his visit in the Headquarters of 5th Fighter Wing, Basa Air Base, Pampanga on December 4, 2020.
The AFP Chief personally experienced the demonstration of expertise and capabilities of the Philippine Air Force when he was accommodated by the 5th Fighter Wing to ride one of their prized FA-50.
“As what I have personally experienced in today’s flight demonstration, our highly-trained pilots have once again proven the extent of their expertise and how much potential they hold,” General Gapay said.
With the recent arrival of new air assets of the Philippine Air Force such as the A-29B Super Tucano Close Air Support aircraft and the Blackhawk helicopters, the air power of PAF has stepped-up and the AFP Chief expected that these will tremendously weaken the force of the enemy.
“It is with high hopes and trust that you, the elite members of our Air Force fly to the skies always carrying the ultimate goal of our mandate to secure the state and to protect the people. Continue to take the lead as you soar as one,” General Gapay added.
The AFP Chief commended the PAF which played a vital role in the humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations of the AFP during and after the onslaught of the recent calamities. Several fixed-wing and rotary aircrafts were used for search, rescue, and relief operations to affected areas.
“The search and rescue capability of the Philippine Air Force saved a lot of lives. Amidst the aftermath of the typhoons, the Airlift and Heli-lift capabilities were greatly utilized for the humanitarian and disaster relief operations. It is truly without second thoughts that you put the lives of others ahead of yours, as you have always done in service of our fellow Filipinos,” General Gapay concluded.
