CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) commemorated National Human Rights Consciousness Week during the flag-raising ceremony on December 2 at the AFP General Headquarters here. General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the AFP, graced the event as the Guest of Honor and Speaker, emphasizing the military's steadfast commitment to human rights.

In his address, General Brawner highlighted the AFP’s evolving approach to upholding human dignity, stating, “The protection of human dignity is not separate from our mission—it is at the center of it. The AFP has come a very, very long way in integrating human rights principles into our operations and institutional culture.”

The ceremony included the reaffirmation of the AFP’s dedication to promoting and protecting human rights as a cornerstone of its mandate. It also served as a reminder to all AFP personnel of their role as guardians of the Constitution and defenders of the Filipino people's fundamental rights.

The celebration aligns with Republic Act No. 9201, which declares December 4 to 10 of every year as National Human Rights Consciousness Week, and underscores the AFP’s continued efforts to foster a culture of respect, accountability, and integrity within its ranks.
