CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines held its yearend Command Conference on January 15 with the Commander in Chief, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, in attendance to hear updates on the AFP’s campaigns and programs and deliver his guidance.

General Romeo Brawner Jr, Chief of Staff of the AFP, led top military officers from the General Headquarters, AFP-wide Support and Separate Units, Major Services, and Unified Commands, and commanders of the army, air force, and naval units on the ground.

Information collected from the ground commanders confirmed the President’s pronouncement that there are only 11 weakened guerilla fronts of the communist terrorist group (CTG). However, General Brawner said that there are still CTG formations, or small bands of stragglers, that are still trying to regroup, recover lost areas, and rebuild support systems.

The remaining members number to around 1,500, according to the AFP Chief, who added that the AFP will try to end insurgency this year.

For its future plans, General Brawner Jr said that they will reconfigure and innovate in their approaches to dealing with different threat groups, both internal and external. He added that the AFP will invoke the whole of nation approach and work towards gaining the support of like-minded nations.

He also touted the creation of the AFP Cyber Command to better protect the nation against threats in the cyber domain and plans to develop military stations in the West Philippine Sea to make them more habitable for the soldiers.

“We welcome the guidance of the president. He is our Commander in Chief and we will follow the orders that he gave. All our plans and programs will be aligned with his pronouncements,” General Brawner Jr said.///
