CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines formally welcomed Colonel Joey T Fontiveros PA(GSC) as the new Commander of the AFP Cyber Group in a Change of Command Ceremony, presided over by AFP Vice Chief of Staff LtGen Arthur M Cordura on October 03, 2024, here.
Prior assumption, Colonel Fontiveros served as the Deputy Commander of Philippine Army's Signal Regiment. He succeeded the outgoing commander, Brigadier General Walter P Icaro PA, who served in an acting capacity. Col Fontiveros also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Management major in Development Security at the Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP).
BGen Icaro is the current Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for C4ISTAR Systems, J6, AFP. Prior to this, he served as Philippine Army’s Assistant Chief of Staff for Command-and-Control Communications and Cyber Systems, G6. He also holds a Master’s Degree in National Security Administration at the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP).
In his remarks, LtGen Cordura commended BGen Icaro who brought significant progress in strengthening the cyber defenses of the AFP, he also expressed his optimism to Colonel Fontiveros’ leadership to intensify its commitment to national security in the digital age.
