CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) officially welcomed Lieutenant General Antonio G Nafarrete as the new Commanding General of the Philippine Army in a Change of Command Ceremony held today, July 31, at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Presided over by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the ceremony also honored outgoing Army Chief, Lieutenant General Roy M Galido, for his exceptional leadership and contributions to the service.
President Marcos, joined by Secretary of National Defense Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr., AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr., and other senior military officials, commended both officers who are members of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990 for their exemplary service.
In his keynote address, President Marcos expressed full confidence in Lt. General Nafarrete’s ability to lead the Philippine Army amid an increasingly dynamic security environment. “I have full confidence that under your command, the Philippine Army will remain steadfast—a pillar of strength, integrity, and professionalism,” the President said.
As a mark of appreciation for his tenure, Lt. General Galido was conferred the Philippine Legion of Honor Award by the President, in recognition of his “exceptional service and dedication.” The award cited Lt. General Galido’s leadership in Army modernization, strengthened civil-military relations, and enhanced regional defense cooperation.
Lt. General Nafarrete assumes command as the Army continues to strengthen its role in national defense and internal security, focusing on modernization, resilience, and strategic partnerships.
