Brawner Reiterates UNITY to Defenders of Southern Luzon

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—General Romeo Brawner Jr, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, reiterated his priorities as AFP chief to the men and women of the Southern Luzon Command that is celebrating its 36th Founding Anniversary on August 8.

These objectives, assigned the mnemonic UNITY, covers several key points and strategies for the AFP related to Unification, Normalization, Internal Security Operations (ISO), Territorial Defense Operations (TDO), and Youth Development.

“Allow me to reiterate my priority thrusts to the team SOLCOM and deliver the principles of UNITY as we continue to enhance our troops’ warfighting proficiencies and embody a strong, reliable, and highly responsive Armed Forces,” General Brawner Jr said.

UNITY emphasizes applying the whole-of-nation approach in ensuring internal security and stability in order for the AFP to shift its focus to territorial defense. It also advances the development of cyber defense and the reserve force that are vital components of military strength amid present threats and challenges.

Meanwhile, LtGen Efren Baluyot, Commander of SOLCOM, committed the unit’s continued dedication to the AFP mission of securing a total victory against internal armed threat groups.

“We are proud to convey to our stakeholders and to the people of Timog Katagalugan and Bicol regions that SOLCOM continues to be deliberate in our plans, executing with urgency to attain the envisioned total victory against the communist terrorist group and establish a credible territorial defense posture,” LtGen Baluyot said. “SOLCOM has transitioned into becoming a dependable and competent UC of the AFP by adapting to the changes brought by modernization and constantly evolving threats in our security environment.” (Photos by Sgt Ambay/PAO, AFP)
