CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City--The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (CSAFP), General Romeo Brawner Jr., joined in the 2+2 meeting between the Philippines and Japan on July 8.
The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening military relations between the two nations. The meeting culminated in the signing of the Philippine-Japan Reciprocal Access Agreement (RAA) by Secretary of National Defense Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. and Japanese Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko and witnessed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at Malacañang Palace.
This historic agreement is seen as a milestone in enhancing military cooperation and ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
General Brawner expressed optimism about the future of Philippine-Japan military relations, stating, "The RAA will pave the way for joint military exercises, closer defense cooperation, and robust security relations between our forces. This agreement exemplifies our shared commitment to uphold a rules-based international order and secure a peaceful and prosperous region."
