The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirms that an armed encounter occurred on 19 April 2026 in Barangay Salamanca, Toboso, Negros Occidental between troops of the 79th Infantry “Masaligan” Battalion, under the 303rd Infantry Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in the Northern Negros area. The operation was launched based on verified reports from civilians on the presence of armed elements in the area.
Government forces engaged the group at approximately 3:58 A.M., resulting in running firefights throughout the day as the NPA attempted to evade pursuit. 19 members of the armed group were neutralized, including identified leaders, and 24 firearms were seized, dealing a significant blow to the Communist Terrorist Group’s operational capability in Northern Negros.
The AFP underscores that the operation was conducted in accordance with established rules of engagement and with full regard for civilian safety. In close coordination with local government units and partner agencies, affected residents were safely evacuated at the height of the encounter and have since returned to their communities. The AFP continues to work hand-in-hand with local authorities to ensure security, stability, and the swift restoration of normalcy.
The AFP calls on the remaining CTG members to abandon the armed struggle and choose the path of peace. Lay down your arms, return to your families, and take part in building your communities as productive members of society. The AFP remains steadfast in its mandate to protect the Filipino people and support lasting peace and development in partnership with all stakeholders.///
