CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City - Seven communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) yielded to the 56th Infantry Battalion of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade under the Philippine Army's 10th Infantry Division (10ID) in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, on April 8.
Lieutenant Colonel Osmalik Tayaban identified the surrenderees on their aliases as Mamiloy, Onyok, Trisha, Toryo/Dayan, Mars, Marvin, Dante (true names withheld for their protection). They brought two (2) AK47 Rifles and one (1) IMI Israel AR Galil Rifle.
According to BGen Consolito P Yecla, 1003rd Infantry Brigade Commander, the surrender to CNTs is a product of effective local peace engagement undertaken by the military, local government units, other government agencies, and peace partners in the Province.
Meanwhile, 10ID Commander MGen Nolasco A Mempin welcomed the new surrenderees and congratulated the efforts of the 56IB and 1003rd Brigade for their relentless push to completely clear their area of operations from the influence of the CPP-NPA. "The snowball of surrenders in Southern Mindanao is a clear manifestation that we are close to ending this 5-decade long insurgency," MGen Mempin said.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), as a member of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), has stepped up its focused military operations to neutralize the terrorist NPAs through security operations or surrender of its members.
