CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) opened the year with its first flag-raising ceremony for 2026, led by General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., AFP Chief of Staff, here at the General CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- Headquarters Canopy Area on January 5. In his message, the Chief of Staff underscored four guiding attitudes he urged all AFP personnel to embody as the institution moves forward in the new year.
“There are four attitudes that I would like you to have at the start of the year; the first is the attitude of gratitude. Let us be thankful for all the blessings that the Lord has given to ourselves, to our families, to the AFP, and to our nation. Because when we have an attitude of gratitude, we feel blessed and content," General Brawner said.
The AFP Chief of Staff also stressed the importance of forgiveness as the organization enters 2026. “The second attitude I would like you to have is the attitude of forgiveness. Let us forgive those who have wronged us in the year 2025 and in the past, because by doing so, our hearts will be lighter as we enter 2026," he said.
Highlighting the need for professional excellence, General Brawner called on all personnel to give their best in every responsibility entrusted to them. “The third attitude is the attitude of excellence. This year, 2026, let us strive to do our best in whatever job we have and in whatever task is entrusted to us," he said.
He concluded by emphasizing hope as a vital anchor for both the AFP and the nation. “Finally, the attitude of hope. There is always hope even when we fall or find ourselves at our lowest. We must not lose hope for ourselves, our organization, and most importantly our nation,” General Brawner said. He further encouraged AFP personnel to act on their New Year’s resolutions by making concrete plans and regularly checking their progress.
The flag-raising ceremony was attended by Military Officers, Enlisted Personnel, and Civilian Human Resources of the AFP General Headquarters, marking a unified and purposeful start to 2026 for the AFP.
