CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The AFP CHief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr, paid a solemn tribute to the heroism of Captain Dean Buen Oyando PA by visiting his wake at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City and personally checking on wounded personnel at the Victoriano Luna Medical Center in Quezon City on March 31.
Captain Oyando, a gallant Officer from the 68th Infantry Battalion under the 2nd Infantry Division, Philippine Army offered his ultimate sacrifice on March 29 while leading his men in a high-stakes pursuit operation against 15 Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) fighters in Barangay Monteclaro, San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. The engagement also resulted in two other soldiers being wounded, identified as Cpl Ramche M Perez PA and Cpl John Ryan D Dango PA.
In the same incident, operating troops also captured a female CTG combatant and recovered an M16 rifle, a hand grenade, and components for improvised explosive devices at the site.
During his visit, General Brawner provided personal assurances to the bereaved family of Captain Oyando and the hospitalized soldiers, pledging that the AFP will provide the full spectrum of necessary support—from comprehensive financial assistance and burial benefits to the highest quality medical rehabilitation.
General Brawner’s visit reflects a leadership that stands with its troops in both loss and recovery, honoring its frontline heroes while reminding the nation of the real and heavy cost of protecting peace and safeguarding security.
The AFP calls on all Filipinos to stand united in supporting the Armed Forces in its mission to uphold peace and stability, and to honor the sacrifices of its soldiers by fostering cooperation, vigilance, and a shared commitment to a secure and peaceful nation.///
