CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) joined senior defense leaders at the Honolulu Defense Forum on January 13, where he participated in a high-level panel discussion on the evolving security landscape in the Indo-Pacific region.
General Brawner took part in the panel alongside Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM), General Uchikura Hiroaki, Chief of Staff of the Japan Joint Staff and Major General (Retired) Suzanne P. Vares-Lum, Director of the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (DKI APCSS).
The discussion focused on emerging security challenges, including threats in new domains such as cyber and space, as well as concerns in economic security that increasingly affect regional stability.
During the exchange, the defense leaders underscored that no single nation can address today’s complex security challenges alone. They shared a common understanding that sustained cooperation among allied and like-minded countries is essential to maintaining peace, stability, and a rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific.
General Brawner emphasized the AFP’s commitment to strengthening defense partnerships and enhancing interoperability with regional and international partners, noting that collective action remains vital to safeguarding shared interests and promoting lasting security in the Indo-Pacific.///
