CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City - The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro joined the 8th Infantry Division’s valiant Storm Troopers in celebrating their 34th founding anniversary in Catbalogan, Samar on Saturday, August 20.
The anniversary marked the Division’s more than three decades of successful internal security operations to dismantle and destroy the remaining guerrilla fronts of the communist terrorist groups in the area.
The occasion was highlighted by the wreath-laying ceremony at 8ID Headquarters to honor the brave Stormtroopers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the performance of their duty.
The AFP Chief of Staff personally awarded outstanding members and stakeholders who significantly contributed to the Storm Trooper Division’s mission of maintaining peace in the Eastern Visayas Region. He also presided over the demilitarization of firearms seized from the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG).
Present in the ceremonies were 8ID Commander Major General Edgardo De Leon, and Commander of Visayas Command Lieutenant General Robert Dauz, along with the men and women of the Storm Trooper Division.
The AFP Chief of Staff implored the Officers and Enlisted Personnel of the 8ID to continue doing their best in sustaining and enhancing the AFP’s efforts to ensure the security of their region.
“Let us intensify our collaboration with the different sectors of our country to effectively support the national government’s call for unity and reconciliation,” he said.///
