AFP Chief of Staff underscores Reserve Force importance in territorial defense at 103rd RRIBn Change of Command Ceremony

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- In a significant gesture of recognition and support, AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr attended the 103rd (La Union) Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion (103rd RRIBn) Change of Command Ceremony on April 27, 2024, at the La Union Convention Center in San Fernando, La Union.

With Major General Romulo A Manuel Jr, PA,  who presided over the ceremony, the event signifies the passing of the baton from outgoing Acting Battalion Commander Colonel Ramon F Laudencia MNSA PA (Res), to the incoming Acting Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Emmanuel R Ortega III, PA (Res).

General Brawner extended his appreciation to Col Laudencia (Res) for his outstanding service and dedication during his command. 

Under Colonel Laudencia's leadership, the 103rd RRIBn successfully fostered partnerships through stakeholder engagements, which includes signing an agreement with TESDA. Additionally, the battalion played a pivotal role in community outreach efforts and national security through distribution of relief goods and active involvement of reserve forces in joint military exercises, enhancing interoperability and readiness within the AFP.

The AFP Chief of Staff likewise expressed his trust and confidence in LtCol Ortega (Res) to lead the command, citing his extensive experience as a former governor and steadfast commitment to national security initiatives. LtCol Ortega (Res) exemplifies on his military knowledge being an honorary member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989.

“During LtCol Ortega’s time as governor, he has contributed a lot to the campaign against Communist Terrorist Groups and the maintenance of peace and order in this province. You have the support of the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” said General Brawner.

Moreover, in light of the current threats faced by the nation, General Brawner left this message for MGen Manuel, “I am challenging MGen Manuel to prepare the Army Reserve Force for territorial defense, as they will play an important role as part of the total force in case of national emergencies.”///
