CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – Marking the start of friendly competitions among dependents of uniformed service members, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) hosted the Opening of the AFP-PNP-PCG-BFP-BJMP Little Olympics 2023 on July 25 at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand.
Embodying the spirit of unity and sportsmanship, this year’s event was joined by the dependents of uniformed personnel and civilian human resources from the AFP, Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
The young athletes will be competing in 11 sports events such as 4 x 100m Relay, 3K and 5K Run, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Karate-do, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, and Modern Dance Competition.
“For many years, the Armed Forces of the Philippines has been actively collaborating with other agencies to promote and enhance physical fitness, teamwork, and disciplined and healthy lifestyle of our personnel,” said the AFP Chief, General Romeo Brawner Jr PA.
The Little Olympics is an annual sports event facilitated for the dependents of personnel from the uniformed services which serves as a venue for the youth to showcase their athletic skills and build rapport among the participating teams. The said activity is in line with the Chief of Staff, AFP’s guidance on youth development.
"We have been fortunate to hold this activity face-to-face for the second time since the pandemic. We must be grateful for this opportunity. More than the medals, the memories made at the Little Olympics are the best awards that one can receive,” the CSAFP added.///
