Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City – The AFP affirms its commitment to support in putting an end to HIV/AIDS as it joins the World AIDS Day 2022 held at the Tejeros Hall, AFPCOC, Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on December 2, 2022, with the theme: “Unifying the Armed Forces Towards Ending HIV/AIDS Amidst the Challenges and Pandemics”.
World AIDS day is observed every December 1 to bring awareness and encourage HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care.
To strengthen the advocacy, various lectures and updates were rendered by the Department of Health, which gives an overview of the Philippine National HIV/AIDS program. This was followed by the presentation of the Revitalized AFP HIV Program.
Lecturers from the College of Medicine Pramongkutklao, Royal Thai Army, and from the University of Santo Tomas also shared insights on the implementation of the HIV Program in the military.
The activity was attended by the AFP key leaders and delegates from the US Embassy, US Department of Defense-PEPFAR, Thai Royal Army, and various government agencies, partner organizations, and stakeholders via face-to-face while other members of the AFP especially those deployed in the operational area attended the celebration virtually.
“In the observance of the World AIDS Day, we educate our military personnel and civilian human resources on HIV Awareness and on sexual health. By doing so, we fulfill our role as members of the global partnership in action to eliminate all forms of HIV-related stigma and discrimination. This aims to end AIDS as a public threat by 2030”, said Lieutenant General Bacarro. (Photo by PAOAFP)
