CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – Representing the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the country, soldier-athletes and coaches were lauded by the AFP leaders in a Recognition Ceremony conducted here on July 13.
Filled with pride, the Deputy Chief of Staff (TDCS) AFP congratulated the troops and coaches who showed excellent performance during the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games from May 05 to 16, 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The soldier-athletes brought home 8 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze medals from various sports events.
Also winning their 4th Championship trophy last June, was the AFP Cavaliers Basketball Team with a PhP3,000,000.00 cash prize during the UNTV Cup Season 9.
The prize from the UNTV Cup will be donated to the AFP Educational Benefit System Office (AFPEBSO) which will be used to assist in the education of the dependents of soldiers who died in battle.
The TDCS, AFP LtGen Charlton Sean M Gaerlan PN(M), extended the AFP Chief, General Andres Centino's message to the soldier-athletes for their victory.
“The success bagged by our soldier athletes embodied your determination to be the best, so we can also give our best to the people and nation that we serve,” he said. He also encouraged the troops to help make AFP “an organization that builds, promotes, and grows sports at the grassroots level.”
“Truly, it is necessary to conduct this recognition ceremony to celebrate all the hard work and sacrifices you have made for the sake of our country and our people. Congratulations and we are very proud of you. Nawa’y patuloy kayong magbigay ng karangalan sa ating bayan,” he added.///
