AFP Honors Dr. Jose Rizal on 128th Martyrdom Anniversary

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines joined the nation in commemorating the 128th anniversary of the martyrdom of national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal today, at the Rizal National Monument, Manila.
 
AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr assisted the Guest of Honor and Speaker, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the monument, following simultaneous flag-raising ceremonies held at historical sites across the country.
 
In a statement, General Brawner reiterated the AFP's commitment to upholding Rizal’s ideals, stating: “As steadfast guardians of peace, committed to our constitutional mandate of protecting the people and securing the state, we draw deep inspiration from Dr. Jose Rizal’s enduring legacy of courage, patriotism, and dedication to progress through just and principled means.”
 
This annual commemoration with the AFP's participation underscores the organization's role as a modern-day guardian, dedicated to protecting the freedom and democracy that Dr. Jose Rizal envisioned for the Filipino people.
