CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City— The Armed Forces of the Philippines held a Change of Chief of Office and Retirement Ceremony, honoring Lt. General Charlton Sean M Gaerlan as he stepped down from his post as The AFP Deputy Chief of Staff (TDCSAFP), held on October 16, here.
The ceremony was presided over by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr., marking the retirement of Lt. General Charlton Sean M Gaerlan, who officially handed over his duties to the incoming Acting TDCSAFP, Major General Augustine Malinit.
LtGen Gaerlan, a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989, dedicated 39 years of exemplary service in key positions, including, Inspector General of the Philippine Marine Corps; Commander of the 3rd Marine Brigade in Western Command, Palawan; Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, AJ2; Commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Education, Training and Doctrine Command (AFPETDC); and recently, Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps.
He also enhanced his professional development through advanced studies at the US Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the National Defense College of the Philippines.
Meanwhile the incoming Acting TDCSAFP, MGen Malinit, a member of the PMA “Sambisig” Class of 1991, currently serves as AFP's The Inspector General.
In his address, General Brawner expressed gratitude to LtGen Gaerlan, emphasizing the importance of leadership. He also expressed confidence in MGen Malinit's ability to uphold the legacy of excellence, stating, “Today we honor an exemplary leader who dedicated 39 years of his life to a remarkable service and welcome his successor to continue this legacy within the Office of The Deputy Chief of Staff of the AFP.”
