CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – Dependents of uniformed service members and civilian employees join the Armed Forces of the Philippines-Philippine National Police-Philippine Coast Guard (AFP-PNP-PCG) Little Olympics on Tuesday, August 24.

The opening ceremony of the first face-to-face sporting event since the pandemic was held at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand in Camp Aguinaldo. It was joined by players aged 17 years old and below.

The Deputy Chief of Staff, AFP Vice Admiral Rommel Anthony SD Reyes presided over the opening ceremony which featured the hoisting of the AFP-PNP-PCG colors and banners.

“This sporting event serves as an opportunity for our youth to showcase their talents, meet new friends, and hone their skills. It will also impart to the participants the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship,” Vice Admiral Reyes said.

Philippine Army Staff Sergeant Estie Gay Liwanen who won the Bronze Medal in the 31st Southeast Asian Games Kurash Event led the Oath of Sportsmanship.

The opening ceremony was highlighted by a modern dance competition participated by the dependents of the uniformed personnel from the AFP, PNP, and PCG.

The week-long friendly competition which will run until June 2 will feature events such as badminton, basketball, volleyball, modern dance, and obstacle course relay.

Safety protocols such as wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing will be observed during the events to prevent the spread of viruses.

The sports competition is among annual athletic events being conducted by the AFP together with PNP and PCG to encourage dependents to continue and sustain their passion for sports despite the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.///(Photos by Sgt Joel Manzano PA/PAOAFP)
