AFP-PNP-PCG Olympics ends, Team Army declared champion

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) closed its annual inter-service sporting event on Tuesday, October 25 at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand in Camp Aguinaldo with the AFP Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro PA as presiding officer, and Chairman Jose Emmanuel Eala of the Philippine Sports Commission as special guest.

"This event symbolized the solidarity and comradeship among the men and women of our defense, law enforcement, and security sectors. It is vital that the AFP, PNP, and PCG continue to foster robust partnerships to sustain cohesive and concerted efforts in addressing the complexities of our security environment," Lt. Gen. Bacarro said.

The Philippine Army was declared the overall champion after garnering nine gold, five silver, and five bronze medals. Lieutenant General Romeo Brawner, Commanding General of the Philippine Army accepted the champion’s trophy.

The Philippine Navy came in first runner-up with five gold, four silver, and six bronze while the Philippine Air Force was second runner-up with four gold, eight silver, and seven bronze. Rear Admiral Caesar Bernard Valencia, the Acting Flag Officer in Command of the Philippine Navy, and Lieutenant General Connor Anthony Canlas, the Commanding General of the Philippine Air Force accepted the plaques, respectively.

Meanwhile, the PNP placed third runner-up with three gold, three silver, and three bronze medals as the PCG was fourth runner-up, with one silver and one bronze. Police Major General Arthur Bisnar, the PNP Acting Chief of Directorial Staff, and Coast Guard Commodore Tito Andal, Chief of Coast Guard Staff were present to accept the awards.

The annual inter-service sporting event seeks to promote sports and encourage uniformed personnel to continue and sustain their passion for sports despite the challenges inherent to their jobs and the adverse effect of the pandemic.

It also serves as an opportunity to identify potential world-class athletes who can represent the Philippines in future international competitions./// (Photo by Donald Viluan/PAOAFP)
