CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines signed a Declaration of Cooperation (DOC) of a joint forum/workshop empowering local communities through a Multi-Sector Governance Council Meeting (MSGC), on May 28, 2024 in Headquarters 2nd Marine Brigade, Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
The signing ceremony was presided over by LtGen Charlton Sean Gaerlan, The Deputy Chief of Staff of the AFP, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the University of the Philippines Center for Integrative and Development Studies (UPCIDS).
In his message, LtGen Gaerlan entailed that the forum serves as a strategic discussion on effective governance in the promotion of the rule of law and human rights and aims to establish a proactive environmental and maritime security plan in Tawi-Tawi.
“This forum aims to equip community leaders with the knowledge and capacities necessary to lead their communities effectively, enhance ongoing environmental and maritime security initiatives, and develop a comprehensive framework to mitigate maritime security threats,” said LtGen Gaerlan.
