The Armed Forces of the Philippines welcomes the appointment of Major General Ernesto C Torres JR PA, Major General William N Gonzales PA, Major General Nestor C Herico PN(M), Rear Admiral Alberto B Carlos PN, and Rear Admiral Rommel Anthony SD Reyes PN to AFP key positions as approved by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
MGen Torres, the current Commander of the 10th Infantry Division, was designated as the Commander of Northern Luzon Command effective on 07 January 2022. He will replace Brig. Gen. Andrew Costelo who assumed the post in an acting capacity following the retirement of then NOLCOM Commander LtGen Arnulfo Marcelo B Burgos Jr on 01 December 2021.
Meanwhile, MGen Gonzales, the Commander of the 11th Infantry Division, was designated as The Inspector General, AFP effective 17 January 2022. He will replace BGen Joseph Ferrous S Cuison PN(M) who serves as the acting TIG since LtGen Franco Nemesio M Gacal retired on 08 December 2021.
The current Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy, MGen Herico, will assume as the new Commandant of the Philippine Marine Corps on 21 February 2022 and will replace MGen Ariel R Caculitan PN(M) upon his retirement.
RAdm Carlos, Commander of the Philippine Fleet, on the other hand will replace retiring VAdm Ramil Roberto B Enriquez PN as the new Commander of Western Command effective 24 January 2022.
Lastly, RAdm Reyes will assume as The Deputy Chief of Staff AFP effective 25 February 2022 and will replace VAdm Erick A Kagaoan upon his retirement.
These appointments speak of the integrity of the selection system of the AFP, given the outstanding performance and extensive experience of these officers that made them earn the trust of the AFP Board of Generals and the approval of the President to perform the duties and responsibilities entailed in the new positions given them.
