AFP Statement on the fire incident at the ammo complex inside 4ID

A fire incident followed by loud explosions transpired at the Ammo Complex of the 10th Forward Service Support Unit (FSSU), Army Support Command (ASCOM) inside Camp Edilberto Evangelista, Patag, Cagayan de Oro City at past midnight of July 12, 2022.

No AFP personnel was injured but there were three (3) civilians who sustained minor injuries. They were immediately treated at Camp Evangelista Station Hospital and are now in stable condition. For precautionary measures, civilians residing around the Ammo Complex were evacuated to the camp's gymnasium and Barangay Patag's covered court.

The AFP commends the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) for its prompt response, which declared the incident as a “Fire Out” at around 3 a.m. The AFP also commends the officials of Brgy. Patag and the Cagayan de Oro City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) for the immediate psycho-social intervention and stress debriefing being provided to the affected individuals.

A thorough investigation is now ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident and prevent the recurrence of a similar incident in the future.
