AFP Welcomes New Commander of GHQ & HSC

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) held the Change of Command Ceremony of the General Headquarters and Headquarters Support Command (GHQ & HSC), AFP on February 13, 2026 at Tejeros Hall, AFP Commissioned Officers Club House, CGEA, Quezon City.
 
Brigadier General Jose Ricky A. Laniog PA formally assumed command as the new Commander of GHQ & HSC, AFP, succeeding the outgoing Acting Commander, Colonel Joel A. Lobitaña PA (GSC). The ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Jimmy D. Larida PN(M), Acting Chief of Staff, AFP.
 
The activity began with the presentation of a Plaque of Appreciation to Colonel Lobitaña in recognition of his dedicated service, followed by the Change of Command Ceremony proper and culminated in the symbolic handover of command.
 
“Brigadier General Laniog’s assumption of command brings both continuity and renewed direction. With his experience, leadership background, and clear understanding of staff and command functions, we are confident that he will further strengthen the effectiveness and responsiveness of the GHQ & HSC in support of the entire Armed Forces,” Lt. Gen. Larida said.
 
He added, “As we move forward, may this Change of Command remind us that leadership is a responsibility entrusted, sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently, but always in service of a greater mission.”
 
Leadership transitions in the AFP remain a vital tradition that reinforces professionalism, accountability, and unity within the organization. It ensures that the military organization continues to effectively fulfill its mandate in service of the Filipino people.///
