AFP welcomes new VISCOM commander

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City--The Armed Forces of the Philippines installed a new commander of the Visayas Command on March 21 following the retirement of LtGen Benedict Arevalo who bowed out of military service after over 38 years as a military officer and cadet.

In a joint retirement and change of command ceremony presided by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr, LtGen Arevalo was replaced by his deputy, Commodore Oscar Canlas Jr, who will lead the AFP's campaigns in the Visayas in an acting capacity. 

A member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sambisig” Class of 1991, Commodore Canlas Jr  was also designated as Inspector General of VISCOM and in various positions in the Philippine Navy including as Director of Naval Command and Staff School; Commanding Officer of BRP Bienvenido Salting (PG112); Director of Littoral Combat Training School of Littoral Combat Force; Commanding Officer of BRP Gen Mariano Alvarez (PS38); Commanding Officer of BRP Pangasinan (PS31); and Inspector General of the Naval Education, Training and Doctrine Command (NETDC).  

"With the arrival of your new Commander, I urge everyone of you to extend your unwavering support and uphold the lofty standard of excellence that have become synonymous with this Command," General Brawner Jr said.
