CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines Health Service Command (AFPHSC), in partnership with the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), joined the celebration of 17th World Kidney Day (WKD) through a Lay Forum conducted today, at the AFP General Headquarters.
Celebrated on March 9 with the 2023 theme: "Kidney Health for All: Preparing for the Unexpected, Supporting the Vulnerable," the campaign for World Kidney Day aims to raise awareness of the prevention and impacts of kidney-related diseases and to promote the mindset of constant preparedness in times of uncertainties and the importance of kidney health for an individual's overall wellness.
The Department of Internal Medicine of Victoriano Luna Medical Center (VLMC) and the NKTI facilitated the AFP-wide Lay Forum, which is also in line with the Chief of Staff, AFP's (CSAFP) objective of strengthening health security response and the implementation of the force health protection program.
The resource speakers, Dr. Jane Teoxon, Dr. Hygeia Laurei Fernandez, and Dr. Jan Joel Simpauco, nephrology fellows from NKTI, discussed the risks of Chronic Kidney Disease and shared the 8 Golden Rules for Healthy Kidneys. They also answered queries during an interactive forum after the lectures.
BGen Fatima Claire Navarro MC, The Surgeon General, AFP, extended her gratitude to the AFPHSC, VLMC, NKTI, and the OTSG for the successful conduct of the forum and reminded the personnel to continue supporting AFP's health programs. "We at the OTSG serve as your monitoring and oversight. Ito po ang paraan so we can be prepared and empowered.
