CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City--The AFP Chief of Staff, General Andres C Centino met with the Ambassador of Turkey, Niyazi Eyren Akyol during the latter's courtesy call on January 10 at the General Headquarters.
In their meeting, the CSAFP expressed his gratitude for the significant contribution of the Government of Turkey to the AFP modernization with the acquisition of the Philippine Air Force Attack Helicopter (AHAP T129) and Philippine Army M113 APC Fire Power Upgrade.
Ambassador Akyol discussed the comprehensive defense industry of Turkey by presenting its defense competence in this modern era. He also extended Turkey’s commitment to continually assist the AFP in its modernization program.
The CSAFP raised that, since the existing MOU with Turkey only covers Defense Industry Cooperation, the ongoing negotiation should proceed to expand the relations of both countries by forging a broad military cooperation framework to explore other areas which are not covered under the existing defense agreement.
