CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) honored Brigadier General Armand M Arevalo, Commander of the AFP General Headquarters & Headquarters Service Command (GHQ&HSC), during a joint Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony held on September 16, here.
AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr. presided over the ceremony, recognizing BGen Arevalo’s 37 years of dedicated service to the nation. Succeeding him in an acting capacity is Colonel Paul Anthony R. Guerrero, his former assistant, who is expected to uphold the high standards of leadership and service set by his predecessor.
A proud member of the Philippine Military Academy “Sambisig” Class of 1991, BGen Arevalo held numerous key leadership roles throughout his career, including Acting Commander of the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) and Company Commander of the Philippine Battalion in East Timor. He also earned a Master’s in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines and a Master’s in Public Management major in Development Security from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
In his keynote address, General Brawner praised the outgoing commander, stating, “As you take off your uniform, I am certain that you have fostered a powerful synergy within this camp and lived a purposeful life in service to our country and its flag.” He also expressed full confidence in the incoming acting commander, Colonel Guerrero, affirming his support that he will build upon the solid foundation laid by BGen Arevalo and lead the Command to even greater heights.
The ceremony highlighted the AFP’s steadfast commitment to effective leadership, professional excellence, and smooth transitions which are hallmarks of a military institution grounded in the enduring values of patriotism, loyalty, and service.
