Philippine Soldier-Athletes dominate 2022 World Eskrima Kali Arnis Championship

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City - Arnisadors and Eskrimadors from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) dominated the recently concluded 16th World Eskrima Kali Aris Federation (WEKAF) Championship held in Mandaue City, Cebu from 17-22 July 2022, defeating participants from eight countries.

The AFP sent nine soldier-athletes who contributed 13 gold, eight silver and three bronze medals to the overall medal standing.

The delegates are all members of the Philippine Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation who competed against representatives from India, United Kingdom, Brazil, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, South Korea and United States.

Private Dexler S Bolambao (Inf) PA, bagged three gold medals; MSg Villardo V Cunamay (Inf) PA won two gold and one silver; A1C Gary P Villagracia PAF with two gold and one bronze; TSg Mike C Bañares (QMS) PA with two gold; A1C Jefferson John B Villaflor PAF with one gold and two silver; Pvt Regie-Jet A Sanchez (Inf) PA with one gold and two silver; SSg Niño Mark E Talledo (QMS) PA with one gold, one silver, and one bronze; Pvt Mary Allin L Aldeguer (Inf) PA with one gold and one silver; and Pvt Crisamuel T Delfin (Inf) PA with one silver and one bronze in their respective categories.

Emerging as the overall champion, the Philippines reaped a total of 170 gold, 160 silver and 161 bronze medals.///(Photos from Special Service, AFP)
