CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. visited the AFP Western Command today to personally check on the troops involved in the June 17 incident with the China Coast Guard during a Rotation and Resupply mission for the BRP Sierra Madre at Ayungin Shoal.
Joined by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and AFP Chief of Staff Romeo S Brawner Jr., President Marcos Jr. praised the troops for their unwavering commitment to protecting the nation's sovereignty despite the dangers they face.
The President's visit highlighted the government's recognition of the soldiers' bravery and dedication, as he awarded Seaman First Class Underwater Operator Jeffrey Facundo the Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank of Kampilan and 79 others who joined the mission with the Order of Lapu-Lapu Rank of Kamagi.
The Kampilan Medal honors those seriously wounded or suffering property loss due to their involvement in the President's campaigns, while the Kamagi Medal recognizes significant active participation in these efforts.
“I salute the eighty officers and troops who sailed the waters and exercised the greatest restraint amidst intense provocation,” the President said.
President Marcos Jr. concluded his visit by reaffirming his commitment to the military, and urging them to remain steadfast in performing their duty stating, “We are charting the destiny of the Philippines, one that is strengthened by diversity but united in our quest for peace. To all of you, once again, well done! You have done good work, you have made the country proud, you have made the military proud. Keep up the good work!”
