CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) troops figured in an intense firefight against communist New People’s Army terrorists (CNTs) in Samar on Sunday, April 10.
A squad from the Philippine Army’s 87th Infantry Battalion, while conducting combat security patrol, encountered more or less four CNTs in Brgy. Can-aponte, San Jose de Buan, Samar.
Government forces and NPA terrorists exchanged fires for about five minutes before the armed rebels withdrew to escape. They left behind a 5.56mm M16A1 rifle and one magazine assembly, which were confiscated by the operating troops.
Lieutenant Colonel Luzelito Q Betinol, Commanding Officer of 87IB, directed the engaged troops to scour the encounter site and conduct immediate pursuit operations against the fleeing enemy.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) intensified its security operations in Samar to prevent the communist terrorist group (CTG) from recovering its lost grounds and force them to abandon armed struggle or induce them to surrender to the government.
