CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) solemnly marked its 90th Anniversary with an interfaith prayer service and nationwide flag raising ceremony, anchored on the theme “Matatag na Sandatahang Lakas, Sandigan ng Bagong Pilipinas.”
Led by AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo S Brawner Jr., the ceremony honored nine decades of sacrifice, courage, and duty rendered by generations of Filipino soldiers who defended the Republic and upheld the Constitution.
“This morning, as our flag is raised simultaneously across all AFP camps and units, we mark a defining moment in our institutional history,” General Brawner said. “It flies not only the colors of our Republic, but also the values shaped by our sacrifice and unwavering service.”
General Brawner further emphasized that the true strength of the Armed Forces is rooted in character. “Matatag na Sandatahang Pilipinas hindi dahil madali ang ating tungkulin, kundi dahil hindi tayo umatras sa oras ng pagsubok. Sandigan tayo ng bayan sapagkat pinatunayan ng mga nauna sa atin na ang lakas ng bansa ay nasusukat sa karakter ng mga nagtatanggol nito.”
“Ang kasaysayan ng AFP ay hindi lamang alaala ng nakaraan—ito ay pananagutan ng kasalukuyan. How we serve today will define the strength of our Armed Forces in the years to come," CSAFP added.
As it commemorates nine decades of service, the AFP reaffirmed its resolve to stand firm, move forward with unity and purpose, and remain faithful to the trust of the Filipino people.
Para sa Diyos. Para sa Bayan. Para sa Sambayanang Pilipino.
