AFP, BAYO Foundation, AFPOLCI launch “Weave for Peace” to empower military families

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), in partnership with the BAYO Foundation and the AFP Officers Ladies Club, Inc. (AFPOLCI), has launched the “Weave for Peace” program, a skills training and livelihood initiative for military dependents on August 11, 2025 in Cagayan de Oro City.

The program aims to equip families of soldiers with weaving skills to create marketable products from recycled military uniforms, promoting both economic resilience and environmental sustainability.

The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division, Philippine Army served as the pilot site, where the inaugural training began at the Harvest CdeO Hub in Camp Evangelista, Cagayan de Oro. Participants are guided by BAYO Foundation trainers in both traditional and modern weaving techniques, transforming old military textiles into handcrafted items.
To ensure high-quality outputs, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is providing technical expertise in textile innovation and product development. The AFPOLCI, led by Senior Adviser Mrs. Melody Brawner, is championing the program to ensure its long-term success and wider adoption across AFP units.

The initiative reflects the AFP’s commitment to soldier welfare, as “Weave for Peace” not only supports livelihoods but also strengthens the bond between the AFP and its families.

Following its pilot run in 4ID, Weave for Peace Centers will be established in other AFP camps nationwide, extending the benefits of skills training, sustainable income, and community empowerment to more military families.///
