CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City--The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) celebrated its 89th Founding Anniversary on December 20 here with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
The theme of this year’s celebration, “AFP@89: Sandigan ng Sambayanan Tungo sa Bagong Pilipinas,” highlights the AFP’s enduring commitment to serving as a pillar of strength for the Filipino people in achieving a stronger and more progressive nation.
Aside from the traditional testimonial parade and review, President Marcos also awarded outstanding AFP members who excelled in their combat and administrative duties. Among the awards are the Medal For Valor; AFP EP of the Year; AFP Civ HR of the Year (Supervisor & Employee Category); ROTC of the Year (Male & Female); and Campaign Streamer Awards.
"As we reflect on 89 years of service, let us remember that our strength comes from working together, united by our shared mission. It is through our collective effort that we fulfill our duty and contribute to a better future for our fellow Filipinos," Chief of Staff of the AFP, General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., said in his message, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort within the organization.
A series of activities were conducted in the lead up to Friday's program, including a fisherfolk forum in Ilocos Norte on December 1, a gift-giving with wounded personnel at V Luna Medical Center on December 11, the Talakayang Mabini on December 12, and a wreath-laying ceremony honoring fallen soldiers on December 13.
A static display of recently acquired assets was also held at the Lapu-Lapu Grandstand parking area to allow visitors firsthand view of the AFP's modernization program.
“To every soldier, sailor, marine, airman, and reservist, your courage, professionalism, and unwavering loyalty inspire the nation. You are the guardians of our sovereignty and the builders of a brighter tomorrow. Let us continue to embody the ideals of integrity and excellence as we work toward a stronger and more capable armed forces,” General Brawner said.
