CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), under the leadership of General Romeo S Brawner Jr., successfully carried out its mission to ensure a safe, orderly, and peaceful environment during the 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. held at the Batasan Complex, Quezon City, on July 28.
In close coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Legislative Security Bureau (LSB) of the House of Representatives, the AFP deployed around 2,500 personnel to perform vital roles in area security, crowd control, emergency response, and quick reaction operations.
On July 30, General Brawner joined key government officials during the Post-SONA Discussions at the Makabagong San Juan National Government Center in San Juan City. The event served as a venue to further unpack and align sectoral and agency-level efforts with the priorities laid out in the President’s address—particularly on national security, defense modernization, and whole-of-nation development.
General Brawner reaffirmed the AFP’s support for the Revised AFP Modernization Program, which is at the core of the defense sector’s transformation and capability development. He emphasized the importance of the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC) in enhancing maritime security and ensuring a credible defense posture.
The AFP also welcomed the President’s recognition of its counterinsurgency gains—highlighting the dismantling of guerrilla fronts, the reintegration of former rebels, and sustained peacebuilding initiatives in areas such as the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
With strengthened interagency collaboration and continued community engagement, the AFP reaffirms its mission to protect the people, defend the territory, and help shape a peaceful and prosperous nation.
