AFP Chief Visits 2nd and 96th Infantry Battalions in Masbate, Assesses Security Readiness for 2025 Elections

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City — General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), visited the Army’s 2nd Infantry Battalion and 96th Infantry Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division in Uson, Masbate on Wednesday to assess the security situation ahead of the national and local elections and review ongoing internal security operations in the area.
During his visit, General Brawner checked on troop morale and commended both battalions for their success in reducing enemy forces through focused military operations conducted in 2024. He awarded the Gold Cross Medal to a female officer from the 2IB and the Silver Cross Medal to a military officer and two enlisted personnel from the 96IB for their key roles in neutralizing a communist rebel and recovering high-powered firearms and war materiel.

Addressing the troops, General Brawner emphasized the importance of unity and readiness as the nation approaches the elections.

"In 2025, we will continue the good work we have started and maintain our momentum, as there are still remaining armed communist elements in this area. Let us work together across Masbate to finally neutralize these groups, encourage their surrender, and ensure peace and order, especially with the upcoming elections. Stay focused on your mission and do not be swayed by outside distractions,” General Brawner said.

He reiterated the AFP’s commitment to the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC), calling on the troops to remain steadfast in their mission as they continue to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country. ///
