CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City — Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo S. Brawner Jr. visited the Headquarters of the 9th Infantry “Spear” Division on Wednesday, January 29, to reaffirm the troops’ vital role in advancing the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Plan.
During his visit, General Brawner underscored the importance of the new strategy, which seamlessly integrates internal security and territorial defense operations to address evolving security threats. He emphasized the AFP’s mission to conduct comprehensive archipelagic defense operations to safeguard national security across all domains.
“With the caliber of our commanders here and the drive and urgency our troops are putting into this mission, I am confident that we can finally end local communist armed conflict and shift greater focus to territorial defense operations,” he said.
The AFP Chief also underscored the division’s vital role in securing the upcoming elections, noting that 2025 will be a critical year for the military’s internal security efforts. The 9th Infantry Division plays an important role in counterinsurgency operations in Southern Luzon, and General Brawner’s visit reaffirmed the AFP’s commitment to sustaining operational gains in the region.
