AFP holds Live Fire drill in Palawan

CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) conducted the Combined Arms and Littoral Live Fire Exercise (CALLFEX) demonstration as part of the AFP Joint Exercise (AJEX) “DAGIT-PA” on November 15, 2022 at Punta Baja, Rizal, Palawan.

The CALLFEX seeks to enhance the interoperability of Army forces with other branches of service in Joint and Combined Arms operations. It aims to improve the synchronization and integration of available assets, especially in providing support to ground forces to defeat the enemy.

The ground troops test, evaluate, and enhance their effectiveness in target acquisition and in requesting close air support from the Philippine Air Force, naval gunfire from the Philippine Navy, and indirect fire support from the Philippine Army's artillery unit. The supporting units test their accuracy in delivering fire support as requested by the troops on the ground. The exercise also tests the interoperability of communication equipment of participating forces.

Vice Admiral Alberto Carlos, Commander of the AFP Western Command (WESCOM), who represented AFP Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro during the exercise, relayed the CSAFP’s message.

“To all our troops, your participation has proven that the AFP’s modernization is not solely limited to the acquisition of advanced military technologies. Our Armed Forces is also honing our military forces and equipping our soldiers with the necessary capacities to prepare them for possible future trajectories of the changing character of warfare,” he said.

The CALLFEX is among the major events in this year’s unilateral exercises which opened last November 7. DAGIT-PA, which stands for “Dagat-Langit-Lupa” integrates Philippine Navy, Philippine Air Force, Philippine Army, and AFP Special Operations Forces to level up capabilities to accomplish missions in the sea, air, and land.

The annual AFP-wide exercise being participated by around 1,500 regular and reserve forces will end on November 18.///
