CAMP AGUINALDO, Quezon City—The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) held a Change of Chief of Office Ceremony on September 6 here to honor the retirement of Major General Jeffrey Hechanova, the outgoing Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans, J5, AFP. He was succeeded by his assistant, Brigadier General Rommel Cordova, who will serve in an acting capacity.
The event was presided over by Lieutenant General Arthur Cordura, Vice Chief of Staff of the AFP, and celebrated the distinguished career of MGen Hechanova. A member of the Philippine Military Academy "Sambisig" Class of 1991, he has held various key positions throughout his service, including as Commander of Tactical Operations Group 3, and former Assistant Chief of Air Staff for Operations (A-3) and for Plans (A-5) of the Philippine Air Force (PAF).
MGen Hechanova's tenure in the AFP was marked by his contributions to the development of operational plans and strategies that strengthened the organization’s overall mission readiness.
Meanwhile, BGen Cordova, a member of the PMA “Maalab” Class of 1993, assumed his new role with a wealth of experience and academic credentials.
BGen Cordova has also served in key roles such as Assistant Chief of Staff for Plans, G5, of the Philippine Army, Assistant Chief of Staff for Training and Education of the 3rd Infantry Division, and Chief of the Policy Studies Division of the AFP Office for Strategic Studies and Strategy Management.
The transition of leadership underscores the AFP’s commitment to maintaining a strong, capable, and forward-looking organization, ready to meet current and future security challenges.
